# How to create a job

> Start from an approved estimate, a customer, or Create Job.

Most jobs start from an accepted estimate. You can also create one when the work is already agreed.

<Steps>
  <Step title="From an approved estimate">
    Open the estimate. If they agreed by phone, click **Mark approved**. When the page says **Ready to convert**, click **Convert to job**. The estimate then says **Converted to a job**. **Open job** takes you to the work. The price lines come across with it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="From a customer">
    Open the customer and click **Create → Job**. An empty **Jobs** section also has **New job**. The customer and their service address are already on the job. You still add a title, the work, and a visit.
  </Step>

  <Step title="From the Jobs list">
    Click **Jobs**, then **Create Job**. Pick the customer. If they are not in the list, click **New customer** on that form. Set **Job title** (this is what the schedule, estimates, and invoices show) and **Problem / work needed**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Convert to invoice** on an estimate creates an invoice and does not create a job. Use that only when there is nothing to schedule.

## What you can set while creating

| Field            | Effect                                                                                                                      |
| ---------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Service address | Where the visit is. Find a Time and the map need this |
| Access & parking | Gate codes and entry notes the crew sees |
| Job type | Groups the work (service call, installation, and any types you added) |
| Priority | **Urgent**, **Normal**, or **Low**. Urgent is how you flag work that should go out first. It does not book a time by itself |
| Source | Where the lead came from. A job from a request shows **From request** and the request reference |
| Tags | Labels you filter on later. Create them under Settings → Tags |

**Generate with AI** writes **Problem / work needed** from the job title. You can edit it before you save.

The job number is assigned from [Job settings](/settings/jobs). You do not type the next number on this form unless that pattern is set up to include one.

Saving the job does not put it on the calendar. Book a visit next: [How to schedule a visit](/help/job-schedule).
