# What a task is, and how it differs from a job

> Company tasks and team events on the calendar, with no customer and no invoice.

A task is internal work. An event is a meeting or a crew block. Neither is a job. Neither can be invoiced. Neither needs a customer.

| | Job | Company task | Team event |
| -------------- | --------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| What it is | Customer work, with visits, a price, and an invoice | Something your team needs to do | Something on the calendar, such as a meeting |
| Where it lives | **Jobs**, and on the schedule as a visit | Badge **Company task** | Badge **Team event** |
| Customer | Required | None | None |
| Invoice | **Create invoice** when the work is done | None | None |

A checklist step on a job is also called a task in a few places. That one lives on the job. Ticking it does not finish the visit, and it does not appear as a company task. Finishing the visit is [How to finish a visit](/help/job-finish). Checklist templates are [Checklists](/settings/checklists).

## Add one from the schedule

Click an empty slot. The dialog is **Add to schedule**, with tabs **Job**, **Task**, and **Event**.

On **Task** or **Event**:

| Field | Effect |
| ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Title | What the board shows. Required. **Title is required** if you save it blank |
| Notes | Optional. Gate codes, an agenda, anything the team should see |
| All day | No clock times. Dates use the company timezone |
| Start and end | Required when it is not all day. **End must be after start.** End date must be on or after the start date |
| Assigned team | Optional. Everyone you pick sees it on their schedule. Search teammates, or **Select all** |

**Create task** or **Create event** saves it. The toast is **Created — you can edit details anytime**. If there are no people yet, the form says to invite them from **Settings → Team**.

You can also add one without opening the board. **Tasks & events** in the schedule area has **New task** and **New event**. The pages are **New company task** and **New team event**. Same fields.

## The list

**Tasks & events** has two tabs: **Company tasks** and **Team events**. Search each list. A row shows who is assigned, or **Unassigned**.

**Assign team** on a row chooses who is responsible. Several people can be on one task or event.

**Delete** removes it from the schedule. The confirm says this cannot be undone. A multi-select **Delete** does the same for every selected row. If some fail, the toast says some items could not be deleted.

**Open schedule** jumps back to the board.

## Edit one

Click it on the calendar. **Edit** changes title, notes, schedule, and team. **Save changes**. **Open full task** or **Open full event** is the longer page: **Overview**, **Schedule**, **Notes**, and **People**.

**Title is required** and **End must be after start** are the same checks as create.

## Hide them

**Schedule → Options → Show on schedule** can turn off **Tasks** or **Events**. They stay in **Tasks & events**. They are just not drawn on the board. That is not a delete.

Colours are in **Options → Key**. A task and an event are not the visit colour.
