# How to book time off

> Request leave, see which visits overlap, approve or decline it, and take it off the board.

Time off is a block on the schedule. It is not a job, it has no customer, and it does not create an invoice. It tells the rest of the schedule that this person should not be offered that time.

## Request it

On **Schedule**, click **Time off**. The dialog is **Request time off**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Set the days">
    **First day** and **Last day (inclusive)** are the range. **The last day must be on or after the first day.** Turn on **All day** when there is no start or end clock time. All day uses full calendar days in the company timezone.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Or set clock times">
    Leave **All day** off and set **Start** and **End** when the leave is only part of a day.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a note">
    **Note to manager** is optional. It is what the approver reads, for example a family trip.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the overlap, then submit">
    Jomioz checks scheduled visits in that range. **No scheduled jobs overlap this range** means the diary is clear. Otherwise the banner counts how many visits overlap, and you can open more of them from the list. **You can still submit.** The manager sees those visits when they review. Click **Submit request**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Two things can happen on submit:

| Toast                 | What it means                                                                    |
| --------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Time-off request sent | A manager still has to decide. The block shows as **Time off (pending)** |
| Time off booked | Your role books it straight away. It is on the calendar as time off, not pending |

If the check itself fails, the dialog says it could not check overlapping jobs. You can retry. Submitting with the warning still on is allowed.

## Approve or decline

Open the pending block. **Review** has **Approve** and **Decline**.

**Approve** books it. The toast is **Time off approved**.

**Decline** needs a **Reason**. **Confirm decline** sends that reason. The toast is **Request declined**. If someone else already decided it, the toast is **This request was already decided**.

## Withdraw or cancel

These are different.

| Action           | When                          | What it does                                                                                       |
| ---------------- | ----------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Withdraw request | The request is still pending | Pulls it back. Approvers are told. Confirm **Withdraw request?** |
| Cancel time off | It is already on the calendar | Removes the block and marks the request cancelled. Confirm **Cancel time off?** **Keep** leaves it |

## What the rest of the schedule does

While the block is pending or booked, that person shows as **Unavailable** when you assign a visit in the range: **Pending time off** or **On time off**. You can still save the visit. The dialog is warning you, not refusing the save. See [How to assign people](/help/job-assign).

On **Crew availability**, that person is **Off**, and a crew can show **Off** for the day. Move the overlapping visits if they should not stay booked across the leave: [How to move a visit](/help/job-move).

Hide time off from the board without deleting it: **Options → Show on schedule**, then turn off **Time off**. The requests still exist. They are just not drawn.
