# Fields

> Extra questions on jobs, customers, and estimates, plus job type and business unit.

Open **Settings → Fields**. You need permission to update company settings to add or edit. Anyone who can open the page can still read the list. The notice says only organization admins can add or edit fields.

The page has two tabs: **Custom fields** and **Job fields**.

## Custom fields

These are extra questions your team fills in on a record. They are not a replacement for the price book, and they are not shown as their own document.

Click **Add field** on **Jobs**, **Customers**, or **Estimates**. The dialog is **New custom field**.

**Create** saves it. The field then shows when someone creates or edits that kind of record, in a section titled **Custom fields**.

**Type cannot be changed after creation.** You can still rename the label, edit the options, and change the sort order. **Save** on **Edit custom field** does that.

**Remove** asks **Remove “label”?** The field disappears from forms. Values already saved stay on existing records. They are not wiped.

An empty list says **No custom fields**. **Add field** creates one, and it then shows on jobs, customers, and estimates. Custom fields are on Pro. On a lower plan the empty state says **Included on Pro.**

## Job fields

**Job type** and **Business unit** are shared lists, not free-text custom fields. People pick one on a job so reports group the same way every time.

**Add job type** and **Add business unit** each ask for a name. Rename from the row. **Remove** permanently deletes that value. The dialog says this cannot be undone.

Removing a job type does not delete the jobs that used it. Those jobs lose that category. Rename when you only want a clearer label.
